Curriculum PATHS Spring Update

Curriculum PATHS Spring Update

Dear all,

Well, it feels like it has been a very long winter this year, but spring is finally just around the corner. Days are getting longer. The daffodils are coming out. Time for some curriculum spring cleaning.

The Curriculum PATHS Council met in February, along with our new Primary members. We have been discussing how to build on the early momentum of Curriculum PATHS and help grow this project into something which can continue to support teachers who are keen to put ethics at the heart of their history teaching. You can get the latest minutes on the Member Mojo page. You will also see our main webpage is now curriculumpaths.schoolshistoryproject.co.uk, from which you can sign up for updates.

So what’s on the horizon at Curriculum PATHS and, really importantly, how can you get involved?

1) BE INSPIRED! We now have 6 Unit PATHS uploaded on the Padlet and another 3 on the way shortly. If you haven’t had the chance to have a look, I’d really encourage you to go and see what people have shared already. As ever, please do share the page with anyone you know who might be interested: www.padlet.com/cpaths/hub

2) APPLY FOR OUR ETHICAL PLANNING AWARD! We are about to launch our new Ethical Planning Award to recognise those departments who have shown a commitment to planning ethically grounded curriculum units and sharing these with the community. To be eligible for an award you simply need to create and share your own Curriculum PATHS Unit.

You can draft your a Unit for sharing by clicking the “Create and Share” button on the Padlet site. Absolutely no pressure for perfection so do please just get involved. If you are at all unsure, just drop Alex a line to chat. The next installment of our PATHfinders project will be dropping soon, so that might just be the inspiration you need. More details on the award on the way soon too.

3) TEACHING INDIGENOUS HISTORIES & PERSPECTIVES! SHP Curriculum PATHS has been partnering with Caroline Pennock (author of On Savage Shores) at University of Sheffield, as well as the Centre for Indigenous and Settler Colonial Studies at University of York, Dr Stephanie Pratt (Crow Creek, Dakota), and the NGO Incomindios, UK, to develop classroom materials for teaching Indigenous American histories and perspectives.

We will be launching these materials at a heavily subsidized conference in June. After this, the materials will be available via Curriculum PATHS. To book onto the conference, follow the link here: Teaching Indigenous Histories and Perspectives in Schools | University of Sheffield

4) COME AND SEE US AT SHP 2025! The Schools History Project Summer Conference is now booking for 11-13 July 2025. The Curriculum PATHS team will be hosting a fringe session and we would love to meet up with some of you there. If you want more information about the conference, or just to book your tickets, follow the link here: SHP Summer Conference, July 11-13 2025 Leeds Trinity University – Schools History Project

That’s all for now, but do watch this space for more exciting news.

All the best,

Alex & the Curriculum PATHS Council.
